Below are important dates and deadlines on the NCSU academic calendar for Fall 2023.

1. NCSU move-in day for fall 2023 is from August 17, 2023 to August 20, 2023 by appointment only. Appointments are available in 1-hour slots between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day from August 18 to August 20 and 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2023. You can Sign up for a check-in appointment by going to MyPack Portal.
2. NCSU Fall 2023 classes start on Monday, August 21, 2023. It is the first day of classes.
3. The last day to add a course without permission is Friday, August 25, 2023.
4. Census Date/Official Enrollment Date is Friday, September 1, 2023.
5. Labor Day holiday is Monday, September 4, 2023. University closed; No classes.
6. Wellness Day (No classes) is Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
7. NCSU Fall Break 2023 is on Monday, October 9, 2023, and Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
8. 8-Week Session – Second session classes start on Monday, October 16, 2023. It is the last day to add a course (8-week 2 classes only).
9. The last day to drop a course without a W grade (8-week 2 classes only) is Thursday, October 19, 2023.
10. Drop/Revision Deadline is Thursday, October 19, 2023.
11. NCSU Thanksgiving break is from Wednesday, November 22, 2023, to Friday, November 24, 2023. There are no classes; University is closed on Thursday & Friday.

2. Friday, January 13 2023 is the last day to add a course without permission.
3. Monday, January 16 2023 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day (NCSU Holiday).
4. Census Date/Official Enrollment Date is Monday, January 23 2023.
5. Thursday, February 6 2023 is Drop/Revision Deadline for 8-Week Session-First Session.
6. The last day of classes for 8-Week Session-First Session is Tuesday, February 28 2023.
7. 8-Week Session-Second Session classes begin on Wednesday, March 1 2023. It is also the last day to add a course (8-week 2 classes only).
8. 8-Week Session-First Session grades are due on Thursday, March 2 2023 by 11:59 p.m.

11. Drop/Revision Deadline for 8-Week-Second Session is Thursday, April 3 2023.
12. The last week of Spring 2023 semester is Tuesday, April 18 2023 – Monday, April 24 2023.
13. Monday, April 24 2023 is the last day of classes for Spring 2023 on the NCSU academic calendar.
14. Reading Days are Tuesday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 26 2023.
15. NCSU Spring 2023 Final Examinations start from Thursday, April 27 2023 to Wednesday, May 3 2023.
16. Spring 2023 grades are due on Friday, May 5 2023 by 5:00 p.m.

Last Day To Add Without Permission

Last day to add a course without permission of instructor. MyPack Portal closes for adds at 11:59 p.m. (After this day, contact the instructor in order to add a class.)

Census Date

Census Date/Official Enrollment Date: Last day to add a course with permission of instructor. Last day for tuition refunds due to dropping a course or changing from credit to audit. The last day for undergraduate students to drop below 12 hours. Last day for ALL students to drop a course without a W grade.

Please note: For undergraduate students taking classes in the second 8-week session of the semester, the last day to drop below 12 hours is NOT the same as Census Date. For all students taking classes in the second 8-week session of the semester, the last day to drop a course without a W grade is NOT the same as the Census Date. Please consult the academic calendar.

Drop/Revision Deadline

All schedule revisions made after this date will require a Schedule Revision form for processing. The last day to change to credit only at ALL levels.

Note: Students enrolled in mini-courses should consult the Eight-Week Calendar above regarding drop deadlines.

Last Week of Semester

During the final week of classes, lab tests, project reports, and presentations are allowed.

Papers and homework can only be due if specified in the syllabus.

However, faculty cannot assign extra tests, quizzes, or papers during this week to allow students to prepare for final exams.

Assignments shouldn’t be due during the final exam period unless they are part of the final exam.

Exceptions require approval from the department head and college dean.

Students should contact their instructor or department head if they believe an assignment doesn’t follow this rule.

Term Withdrawal Deadline

The last day to submit a withdrawal request for the term. Any requests after this date are considered retroactive and require the same conditions as a term withdrawal, but must also be initiated by the Counseling Center. Visit the NC State calendar page for more on NCSU Academic Calendar.
